Ziega Warns NPP: “The Party May Spend Three Terms in Opposition If Internal Issues Are Not Resolved”

Nana Kofi Frimpong Ziega has issued a strong warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging the leadership to take internal reconciliation seriously, or risk spending three electoral cycles in opposition.

Speaking on Kessben TV’s Maakye show, Ziega expressed concern over growing divisions within the party, particularly the rift between former President Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, now the party’s 2024 flagbearer.

“Politics has to be treated as politics. Dr. Bawumia and Akufo-Addo are not on the same page. There is no sign of reconciliation, and it’s already hurting the party’s structure,” Ziega stated.
According to Ziega, the former Vice President is effectively in opposition within his own party, due to unresolved grievances and quiet tensions from the previous administration.

“So many things were done to Dr. Bawumia that pushed him into isolation within the NPP,” he said.
He warned that if these issues are not addressed immediately, the party’s chances of returning to power could be significantly delayed.

“If the NPP is not careful, they will stay in opposition for three terms before coming back,” Ziega cautioned.

Ziega also criticized Mr. Sammy Crabbe, a potential candidate for NPP National Chairman, questioning his readiness and commitment.

“Sammy Crabbe is not ready to lead the NPP. His actions don’t reflect the seriousness of someone seeking to chair a party in crisis,” Ziega said.

He advised NPP delegates to vote against any executive who does not clearly demonstrate loyalty and a genuine interest in rebuilding the party from the ground up. “This is the time to put the party first. Any incoming executive who doesn’t have the goodwill of the NPP at heart should be voted out,” he added.
