Ghana-EU Business Forum Held in Accra with Focus on Economic Transformation

The Ghana- European Union (EU) Business Forum took place in Accra earlier today. The forum’s role in deepening ties between Ghana and the EU, focusing on economic transformation, sustainable industrialization, and mutual prosperity.
Speaking at the event, president of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama noted that the EU is a longstanding trade partner of Ghana.
He said, Ghana’s trade relationship with the EU remains robust, with the EU importing approximately $3.25 billion worth of goods from Ghana in 2024. According to him, Ghana exported a total of $3.65 billion worth of goods to the EU in 2024.
He mentioned that Ghana’s total exports in 2024 reached 294.9 billion Ghana cedis, approximately $20.4 billion USD, with a trade surplus of 44.7 billion Ghana cedis. Noted that, commodities like gold, mineral fuels, and cocoa accounted for over 82% of Ghana’s total exports.
“The EU remains one of Ghana’s most important and consistent development and trade partners. Our collaboration has spanned several decades, covering critical sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, governance, health, and education. But more recently and crucially, we are witnessing a new chapter defined by trade, investment, innovation and entrepreneurship” he stated.
Government Initiatives and Vision
President Mahama outlines several key interventions launched by the government, including a 24-hour economy initiative to incentivize round-the-clock production in various sectors such as The National Apprenticeship and Skills Program aims to equip youth with industry-relevant skills for employment, The Mahama Care Program and the Primary Health Care Program will universalize access to quality health and social protection amongst others.
He also said that Ghana is set to embark on a new era of industrial growth, job creation for the youths, and transformative development.
Ghana’s vision is to build a dynamic and resilient economy that creates jobs, adds value to natural resources, and empowers small and medium enterprises.
“This business forum is a testament to our joint commitment to reposition our relationship on a more sustainable and mutually beneficial, commercial footing. Under my leadership, Ghana embarks on a new era of industrial diversification, youth employment and great transformation. And the role of strategic investors and innovative partnerships will be indispensable in this journey “ he added.
