The Attorney General’s Handling of Adu Boahen’s Case Was Not the Best” – George Oppong, ESQ

George Oppong ESQ, a member of the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Legal Directorate, has criticized the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, for his handling of the case involving former Director General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu Boahen.

“The Attorney General should stop holding all these press conferences and let the case play out in the courtroom,” he said. “The results will speak for themselves.”

He also emphasized that accountability is important and no one is above the law, including Adu-Boahen. However, he warned that without following the right process, the truth could be lost.

“The Attorney General’s comments suggest the investigations were not thorough,” he said. “It seems the aim was to punish Adu Boahen unfairly.”

He acknowledged that the law allows for re-arrest if new evidence emerges but questioned whether proper investigations had been done in this case.

“Adu Boahen is not going anywhere. He’s right here in Ghana,” he added. “The Attorney General should take his time and do a proper job. These are serious accusations, and they should be handled carefully.”

He cautioned that when due process is ignored, it can ruin someone’s reputation and violate their rights in ways that can’t be undone.

On Monday, March 24, 2025, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine held a press conference, making serious allegations against Adu Boahen. He claimed the former NSB boss diverted public funds intended for a cybersecurity defense system.

Adu Boahen, who served as the head of the National Signals Bureau until February 2025, was accused of embezzling state funds and moving them into personal accounts.

His arrest came after an investigation by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), which began following reports that he had tried to leave the country to avoid questioning.
