Sammy Gyamfi Did No Wrong – Alexander Ackuako Defends NDC Communicator Over Agradaa Dollars Controversy

Alexander Ackuako, former NDC parliamentary candidate for Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfrom, has jumped to the defense of party national communications officer Sammy Gyamfi amid public backlash over claims that he gifted money in dollars to controversial public figure Evangelist Agradaa.

Speaking on Maakye on Kessben TV, Mr. Ackuako questioned the basis of the controversy, describing the issue as a matter of personal discretion, not corruption.

“Is it a crime for someone to gift money to another person? Is it because Agradaa is seen as undeserving or because Sammy Gyamfi used dollars? Has anyone proven that the money came from the government?” he asked.

Mr. Ackuako challenged critics calling for an investigation by CHRAJ or suggesting that Sammy Gyamfi resign from his position.

“If people want to report him to CHRAJ, let them go ahead. Sammy Gyamfi has nothing to fear. He is well-paid in his current role, and if he decides to convert some of his income to dollars, what law has he broken?” he argued.

He emphasized that no one has been able to show that the money given to Agradaa was misappropriated government funds.
“The real corruption cases are when public funds are given out for work that is never done, not when someone gives a private gift,” he added.

While defending Sammy Gyamfi’s financial capacity, Mr. Ackuako admitted that the gesture may have lacked good judgment, especially considering Agradaa’s controversial public image and her conduct during the 2024 election season.

“Looking at how Agradaa portrayed the NDC ahead of the elections, I don’t think Sammy Gyamfi should have given her any money, but that is his choice,” he said.

He urged government appointees to be more cautious with how they interact in public, especially in the age of instant scrutiny and political polarization. “Appointees must be wise in how they carry themselves. You can’t expect to befriend NPP members in this climate, they’ll turn around and bite you,” he advised.
