NPP Slams NDC’s Sammy Gyamfi Over Dollar Scandal, Calls for Investigation and Dismissal

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, over a video that shows him distributing fresh United States dollar notes to a controversial figure, Evangelist Patricia Oduro, alias Nana Agradaa. The NPP describes the act as a “patent indiscretion” that breaches several laws of the land, including the Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723).

Alleged Breach of Laws

The NPP alleges that Gyamfi’s actions breach Sections 3(1) & (4) of the Foreign Exchange Act, which prohibits dealing in foreign exchange without a license. The party also claims that Gyamfi’s actions mock the recently enacted code of conduct by President Mahama, which emphasizes integrity, honesty, and incorruptibility.

Call for Investigation and Dismissal

The NPP, led by National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye, is calling for an immediate investigation into Gyamfi’s actions and demanding his dismissal as the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD). Boakye stated, “We believe that Gyamfi’s actions demonstrate a lack of confidence in the Ghanaian cedi and make him unfit to superintend over an institution crucial to the stability of the currency.”

Hypocrisy Allegations

The NPP also accuses Gyamfi of hypocrisy, pointing out that he had previously criticized Hon. Cecilia Dapaah and Justice Gertrude Torkonoo over similar issues. Boakye argued, “Gyamfi should resign and avail himself for investigation, just like Cecilia Dapaah did when she was embroiled in a similar scandal.”

Concerns About Corruption

Henry Nana Boakye expressed concerns about corruption within the current administration, citing the indictment of Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine over alleged corrupt activities. Boakye emphasized the need for transparency and integrity within the highest levels of government.

Dual Appointments

The NPP also raised concerns about dual appointments within the current administration, where individuals hold both political and public offices. Boakye argued that this practice undermines the principle of neutrality in public service and could affect the objectivity and ability of these individuals to serve the state effectively.

Conclusion

The NPP is urging President Mahama to take swift and decisive action against Sammy Gyamfi and to ensure that all public officers comply with the relevant legal provisions. Henry Nana Boakye concluded, “The clear delineation of political roles and governmental functions will reinforce the credibility of the administration and strengthen public confidence in the democratic process.”
