Cedi Appreciation over the Dollar: The NDC is not doing anything extraordinary, The dollar is globally declining against all currencies – NPP’s Nana Aduse Poku

Hon. Nana Aduse Poku, former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asunafo South and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has addressed the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar while speaking on Kessben FM.
He emphasized that the cedi’s strengthening is not an extraordinary achievement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), but rather a reflection of a global trend where the US dollar is declining against most currencies.
Hon. Aduse Poku’s remarks come amid political debates over the factors influencing the cedi’s performance. While the NDC attributes the cedi’s appreciation to their policies, the NPP counters that the trend is part of a broader global pattern.
This perspective aligns with statements from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who noted that the cedi’s strengthening resulted from deliberate policy interventions by the government, including tightening cedi liquidity and improving forex flows from remittances and the mining sector .
However, some experts remain cautious about the sustainability of the cedi’s appreciation. Economists have expressed concerns that the rapid rise may be artificial and not based on sound economic indicators.
