“Where’s the Real Impact?” – Nana Kay Challenges Mahama’s 120-Day Performance

Nana Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah, popularly known as Nana Kay and a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, has raised critical concerns over President John Dramani Mahama’s first 120 days in office. Speaking on Kessben TV’s Maakye show, Nana Kay questioned the tangible outcomes of the administration’s policies, particularly regarding the strength of the Ghanaian cedi.

“What direct policy has the Mahama administration implemented to strengthen our cedi?” he queried. Nana Kay expressed skepticism about the sustainability of the current cedi-to-dollar exchange rate, especially with increased importation expected from July to meet Christmas demands. “If they can maintain the cedi’s strength during that period, then I will applaud them for achieving something meaningful,” he added.

Addressing the issue of cocoa pricing, Nana Kay criticized the government’s stance, recalling pre-election promises. “The current Finance Minister criticized the previous administration for underpaying cocoa farmers. Now in power, they claim the previous prices were higher and cannot be increased further. Ghanaians are tired of these tricks,” he stated, rating the administration’s performance in this sector as “0 out of 10.”

On the matter of illegal mining, commonly known as ‘galamsey,’ Nana Kay was unequivocal in his condemnation. He accused the Mahama administration of hypocrisy, stating, “They act as if they are combating galamsey, but in reality, they are encouraging it.” He rated their efforts in this area as “-4,” indicating a negative impact.

Nana Kay’s remarks reflect a broader skepticism within the NPP regarding the effectiveness of President Mahama’s early tenure. As the administration reaches its 120-day milestone, such critiques underscore the ongoing political discourse surrounding its performance.
