The boss of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori Agyemang, popularly known as King Zuba, has openly declared his long-term ambition to lead Asante Kotoko Sporting Club as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Speaking on Kessben FM, the outspoken and passionate mayor revealed that he is committed to working so diligently in his current role that he earns the admiration and trust of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene and life patron of Kotoko.
“I want to work so well as KMA boss that Otumfuo will one day say, ‘Bring me that young man to manage my club,’” King Zuba stated, capturing both his deep respect for traditional leadership and his strong emotional connection to the Asante Kotoko brand.
Known initially for his strong voice in sports commentary before entering mainstream public service, he has managed to bring energy and visibility to local governance. His unique background, bridging media, politics, and sports makes his ambitions for Kotoko’s top executive job both intriguing and plausible.
Asante Kotoko SC, one of the most historic and decorated football clubs in Africa, remains a cultural treasure of the Ashanti Kingdom. The role of CEO is not merely administrative but is widely seen as a sacred responsibility to the people of Ashanti and a direct representation of Otumfuo’s will and vision for the club. For King Zuba to publicly express his hope of earning that trust through performance , not connections, sends a strong message about merit, loyalty, and purpose.
While the Kotoko CEO position is not vacant at the moment, Zuba’s declaration may have subtly laid the groundwork for future consideration. His track record at the KMA, and his ability to navigate both political and grassroots environments, could serve him well should that day come.
