Hon. Ayeh Asafo-Adjei Warns of Retaliation if President Mahama Replaces Chief Justice

Speaking in a phone interview on the Kessben Maakye Morning Show, Hon. Ayeh Asafo-Adjei, Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho, issued a strong warning to President John Mahama over plans to remove and replace the current Chief Justice.

According to the MP, if President Mahama proceeds with the removal and appointment of a new Chief Justice, the youth will ensure that any such appointee is forced out if power changes hands in the future. He argued that any Chief Justice appointed under these circumstances should be prepared to leave office along with the outgoing president.

His remarks come in connection with the “Save the Judiciary” protest, which seeks to petition the president not to interfere with the judiciary.

Hon. Asafo-Adjei stressed that if President Mahama ignores the numerous calls and goes ahead with the move, the same treatment will be extended to his appointee when the NPP government takes over.

He urged all well-meaning Ghanaians to raise their voices and caution President Mahama against undermining the independence and stability of the judiciary.
