GFA President Kurt Okraku issues strong warning to “these Sports Journalists”

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has sent a strong warning to individuals and media outlets who peddle falsehoods about him, stating firmly that while he maintains a cordial relationship with the media, he will not hesitate to take legal action against defamation.

Speaking in a telephone interview on Kessben FM, Mr. Okraku acknowledged the critical role of the media in sports development and transparency. “I have a good relationship with the media,” he affirmed. “I respect what journalists do and how important the media space is to football and national development.”

However, the GFA boss was clear in drawing a line between constructive criticism and malicious attacks. “But if you defame me, I won’t forgive you,” he stated bluntly. “I will deal with you legally. I will defend my reputation with everything I have.”

His comments come amid growing scrutiny and controversy surrounding football administration in Ghana, where public discourse often spills into unverified claims and personal attacks on officials. Mr. Okraku emphasized that while accountability is essential, it must be grounded in truth and professionalism.

“I have no problem with anyone criticizing my work or the GFA,” he noted. “But when people make it personal, when they fabricate stories to tarnish my image or damage the work we are doing, then I will not look away.”

He further urged media practitioners to uphold journalistic integrity and crosscheck their facts before going public with sensitive information. “Let’s build the game together,” he said, “not by tearing each other down, but by being honest, factual, and respectful.”

Nonetheless, Kurt Okraku reaffirmed his commitment to openness and dialogue, stating that his doors remain open to media engagement, but within the bounds of mutual respect and legality.
