2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations: Daniel Amartey calls for support for the Black Satellites as they kick off against Congo today

As the Black Satellites kick off their 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign today against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), Black Stars defender Daniel Amartey has issued a heartfelt appeal to Ghanaians to rally behind the national under-20 football team.

Amartey, who has been a stalwart for the senior national team, emphasized the importance of unity and national pride in supporting the young talents representing Ghana on the continental stage. He acknowledged the challenges the team faces but expressed confidence in their abilities.

“This is a new generation of footballers, and they need our support to succeed,” Amartey stated. “Just as we cheer for the Black Stars, let us also stand behind the Black Satellites. Their success is our success.”

The Black Satellites are placed in a competitive Group C alongside Senegal, Central African Republic, and DR Congo.

Head Coach Desmond Ofei has expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, highlighting their potential to make a significant impact in the tournament. “This can be the most exciting tournament in the history of the U-20 AFCON,” Ofei remarked. “Many teams are now investing heavily in international players. If you look at Congo, for example, there are Belgian players in their squad, so it’s not going to be easy.”

The match against DR Congo marks the beginning of what is hoped to be a memorable campaign for the Black Satellites. With the support of the entire nation, the team aims to honor the legacy of past successes and pave the way for future triumphs on the international stage.

Ghanaians are encouraged to follow the team’s progress and show their support as the Black Satellites strive to bring glory to the nation.
