Royal rift: Dompim Tufuhene fined GH₵55,000 for visiting Napo’s Aide

In what has been described as a shocking display of desperation, intolerance, arrogance and vindictiveness of a rivalry chief of Dompim Pepesa, Ohyeawora Bian Nyowah Panyin, has ignited fresh controversy by slapping an outrageous GH¢55,000 fine on his Tufuhene, Nana Awuakoapong, over what many see as a harmless courtesy visit.

The Tufuhene’s “crime”? was visiting Fiifi Boafo, a former Communications Director of COCOBOD and Spokesperson for Dr. Mattew Opoku Prempeh, Npp Vice Presidential running mate for election 2024, a highly respected and noble figure in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency, during the Easter festivities. The fine, allegedly imposed over claims of “disloyalty,” has left many stunned, with residents and political observers alike questioning the legitimacy and motive behind such an action.
Insiders close to the matter say the purpose for the visit is still unclear.

POLITICS DISGUISED AS TRADITION

What makes this episode particularly disturbing is the growing perception that Mr. Duker, still smarting from his humiliating defeat in the 2024 elections by a margin of nearly 9,000 votes, is weaponizing traditional authority through his cousin in an effort to stifle support for Fiifi Boafo a man many consider NPP’s most credible hope of reclaiming the Tarkwa-Nsuaem seat from the NDC.

Party insiders fear that such actions, if unchecked, risk derailing the ongoing efforts by the NPP’s national leadership to unify and reorganize the grassroots ahead of the crucial 2028 elections. Rather than heal wounds and foster cohesion, Mireku Duker and his allies appear fixated on purging those they perceive as political threats.

Meanwhile, the local political atmosphere remains tensed, with concerned residents warning that such heavy-handed tactics could alienate floating voters and well-meaning party faithful.

PARTY OR PERSONAL VENDETTA?

It is now an open secret in Dompim and Tarkwa at large that Mr. Duker and his associate, Benjamin Kesse, are masterminding a campaign to gag community leaders and NPP supporters warming up to Fiifi Boafo’s leadership potential. Their continued interference in chieftaincy affairs has already triggered years of unrest in Dompim, contributing heavily to the NPP’s loss of political capital in its once-safe stronghold stemming from Assembly elections and that of Parliamentary fortunes.

What is at stake now is not merely the pride of a defeated MP or the fragile ego of a political has been, but the very soul of the NPP in Tarkwa-Nsuaem. At a time when unity should be the watchword, the party must take swift action to condemn these divisive stance.

THE WAY FORWARD

Fiifi Boafo remains the brightest beacon of hope for a revitalized NPP in Tarkwa-Nsuaem. His clean record, people-centered vision, and enduring grassroots appeal make him the natural choice to restore dignity and momentum to the party’s fortunes in the constituency.

If the NPP truly seeks to recapture the seat, it must distance itself from vendetta politics and rally behind competent, credible, and unifying candidates like Boafo. The national and regional executive body must also intervene immediately to restore calm, uphold party discipline, and protect its values from being hijacked by personal interests masquerading as tradition.

The time for silence is over. The party’s future in Tarkwa-Nsuaem depends on it.
