Digital literacy and coding to be integrated in Universities and Technical schools’ curricula- JM reveals

“The honourable minister for communications is already working closely with the minister of Education to integrate digital literacy and coding into our university and technical schools’ curricular” President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed.

This decision is aimed at making digital education a permanent strategic part of Ghana’s educational system.

He made this known while launching the one million Coders Programme, that focuses on empowering young people with essential digital skills.

Delivering his address, he said the rise of digitalization requires an overhaul of the nation’s learning approach.

“Through the OMCP, we are not only skilling our youths, we are reshaping our national approach to learning. The honourable minister for communications is already working closely with the minister of education to integrate digital literacy and coding into our university and technical schools’ curricular.

“The aim of this is clear. Is to make digital education not just a short term initiative but a permanent strategic part of our educational system” he revealed.

He also stated that the coding initiative will not leave anyone behind, emphasizing on equity.
“Digital transformation must not leave anyone behind and that is why this OMCP programme, places a strong emphasis on equity, ensuring access for rural communities, for women, and for persons with disabilities, and for others who are often left on the periphery” he noted.

Training centres will further be activated at Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies across Ghana to enhance accessibility of the coders programme.
