“Mahama Ayariga is behind all the atrocities in Bawku” – Angry Bawku residents declare
The MP for Bawku Central, Hon. Mahama Ayariga has been blamed for the atrocities happening in Bawku by angry residents. According to them, he declared on air that his mother is of the Mamprusi sect of the region, knowing very well that a declaration of that sort would cause tempers to rise.
They lamented over how politicians who were meant to serve the people have used the conflicts for their selfish political gains. “They keep deceiving us about solving the conflicts only to get votes. It will surprise them that there will be no single vote in a ballot box, come 2028”, they threatened.
There were vehement complaints also of how the President, His Excellency John Mahama has taken too long in addressing the conflict and restoring peace to Bawku.
According to them, more than 18 people have been killed, including women and children, since the president’s assumption of office. They pleaded that the president must fulfill his promises to the people of Bawku, as soon as possible to prevent further escalations.
The people fear that the NDC government is massaging the issue just as the previous government did, and this will lead to more loss of lives.
They called on major stakeholders in society, with an emphasis on the King of the Ashanti land, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, to bring lasting peace to Bawku.
