The NDC has a dark history with the judiciary, which is the reason I fear for the current Chief Justice – Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, NPP MP for Ejisu

Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, a legal expert and Member of Parliament for Ejisu, has expressed his views on the current Chief Justice’s position amidst political controversies.

Speaking on Kessben Maakye, he stated that the NDC has a dark history with the judiciary; therefore, if Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo were a family member, he would have advised her to resign due to political pressures and other related issues.

He further questioned the historical relationship between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government and Chief Justices, suggesting a pattern worth examining.

These developments underscore the intricate relationship between politics and the judiciary in Ghana. Lawyer Kwabena Boateng’s comments contribute to an ongoing dialogue about the need to safeguard judicial independence and maintain public trust in the legal system.

As political figures continue to scrutinize the judiciary’s role and composition, it remains crucial to ensure that justice remains impartial and free from political influence.

President John Mahama has begun consultations with the Council of State following the submission of three petitions seeking the removal of the Chief Justice.
