“Nkoko Nketenkete”: 50 anchor farmers to produce 4M birds, 10,000MT of chicken – Prez Mahama

The government’s initiative, President Mahama emphasized to register 50 anchor farmers aimed to support the production of 4 million beds, equivalent to 10,000 metric tons of chicken.

This ambitious project falls under President John Dramani Mahama’s Feed Ghana Programme, which focuses on boosting food production, guaranteeing food security, and supplying raw materials to industries.

“Currently, Ghana imports over $400 million worth of chicken annually. Through the Poultry Farm to the Table Project, we will, in collaboration with the Poultry Farmers Association revamp the poultry value chain. This will involve investments in hatcheries, quality feed production, veterinary services, and processing. Fifty anchor farmers will be supported this year to produce of 4 million birds (10,000MT of chicken).

President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama has pledged to revitalize the Poultry industry. This comes on the back of boosting Ghana’s agriculture, and promoting poultry farming.

He made this pledge during the launch of the Feed Ghana Programme held on Saturday, 12th April, 2025.

He stated that revitalizing the poultry industry would lead to a reduction in the annual importation of chicken.

“Government will also promote backyard poultry farming to support women’s income and household nutrition. Under the Nkoko Nketenkete project, we sup! Ort will be given to 55,000 households to produce a more than a million birds” he stressed.

In line with this, his government will also promote livestock development by offering incentives to farmers.

Livestock Development:

President Mahama reaffirmed government’s commitment to promote the rearing of cattle, pigs, and small ruminants by facilitating access to improved breeds, veterinary services, and incentives to strengthen the local livestock industry.
“ Under this component will promote the rearing of cattle, pigs, small ruminants, like goats, like goats and sheep, and improve access to high quality breeds veterinary services and targeted incentives for livestock farmers.” President Mahama.
