Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s Attempted Arrest Completely Unlawful — Hon. Nana Ayeh Asafo Adjei

The Member of Parliament for Bosomefreho, Hon. Nana Ayeh Asafo Adjei, has strongly condemned the recent attempt by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to arrest Rev. Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South, describing it as a clear violation of parliamentary protocol and the law.

On Wednesday, April 9, officers from the NIB reportedly stormed the home of Rev Fordjour, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, to extend an invitation for questioning. The move was met with strong resistance from members of the Minority Caucus, who described the action as a breach of Ghana’s law and Order.

Speaking on the Maakye morning show on Kessben TV, Hon. Nana Ayeh Asafo Adjei referenced Articles 116 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution, which outline the procedures security agencies must follow when engaging sitting Members of Parliament.

He also emphasized that the Speaker of Parliament has previously issued a directive to all security agencies, requiring them to seek clearance from the Speaker before attempting to question or arrest any MP.

“The NIB’s action disregards established protocol,” Hon. Ayeh stated. “It also jeopardizes public confidence in national security campaigns such as the “See Something, Say Something” initiative.

According to him, the approach taken by the NIB discourages citizens and parliamentarians alike from cooperating fully with security efforts if proper procedures are not respected.
