Residents of Assin South declare support for Ntim Fodjour

Tensions are rising in Assin South after personnel from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) reportedly stormed the residence of Hon. Rev. Ntim Fodjour, in what was initially perceived as an arrest. The Member of Parliament, however, described the move as an act of intimidation and questioned the motives behind the NIB’s visit.

Reporting from the scene, Kessben’s Oheneba Ambrose noted that the lawmaker is believed to have been targeted for comments he made recently concerning alleged illegal activities at the Kotoka International Airport.
George Korbea Asante, the Deputy National Communications Director for the NPP, reacted strongly on Kessben TV.

He described the move as a threat to Ghana’s democracy and condemned the method used by the NIB personnel. “Our democracy is under serious threat. What law permits state security to barge into someone’s home with their faces covered?” he questioned.

He cited Article 21(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which guarantees freedom of expression and the right to whistle-blow in the interest of public safety.

George Korbea further criticized the NIB’s approach, saying it was “barbaric and shameful,” and likened the operation to how an armed robber would be treated. He also claimed the event was a coordinated act by some elements within the government, but clarified that the minority had been informed that the MP was only being invited to assist investigations, not to be arrested.

He warned that political intimidation would not silence truth, and described the state’s actions as a threat not just to individual rights, but to Ghana’s democratic values.
