Let’s promote gender inclusive policies – Mahama charges academic institutions

President John Dramani Mahama has charged academic institutions to promote gender- inclusive policies.
He believes that the underrepresentation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), fields hinders their ability to succeed in science- related careers.
He has therefore called for gender-inclusive policies to boost opportunities for women, promoting equality and fairness.
He made this call during the 10 -year anniversary celebration of the Africa Centers of Excellence (ACE) Program, held in Ghana.
“A particular urgent attention is the stuck gender disparity in Science and Technology where women remain significantly underrepresented. It is imperative that academic institutions promote gender inclusive policies and expand opportunities for women to thrive in these disciplines” he said.
His Excellency also commended the Africa Centers of Excellence for its remarkable contribution to supporting women in STEM education.
He further revealed that the programme has led to a significant increase in female enrollment in scientific and technical careers.
“In this regard, it is important to commend the Africa Centers of Excellence for its remarkable contribution to supporting women in STEM education. The programme has made impressive strides in increasing female enrollment offering targeted scholarships, mentorship initiatives, and building institutional cultures that recognize and respond to the unique challenges faced by women in scientific and technical careers” Mr Mahama added.
