Dr. Duffour denies making tribal comments over Kumawu DCE appointment

Former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffour has firmly denied allegations that he made tribal remarks against Northerners in connection with the appointment of a District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Kumawu District Assembly.
The denial follows a demonstration held at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party office in Kumawu on Saturday, reportedly in reaction to a viral video circulating on social media.
In the video, a group claiming to represent Northerners in the Kumawu Constituency alleged that Dr. Duffour had vowed never to allow a Northerner to be appointed as DCE.
In a press statement signed by his aide, Daniel Obeng Peprah, Dr. Duffour refuted the claims as “false and defamatory,” stressing that he has no involvement in the selection or nomination process of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
“The Kumawu Constituency is very dear to his heart,” the statement noted. “Dr. Duffour has contributed significantly to its development, including the recent acquisition of a plot of land through the current Constituency Executives for the construction of a befitting party office.”
The former minister also emphasized his respect and admiration for all ethnic groups in Ghana, adding that many of his closest allies in both political and social life are Northerners.
“He categorically denies ever making any tribal comment, publicly or privately,” the statement continued. “He would be the last person to denigrate any group of people, especially those who have stood with him throughout his political and professional journey.”
Dr. Duffour, who described his reputation as his “most treasured asset,” issued a seven-day ultimatum to anyone with evidence of the alleged tribal remarks to make it public.
He warned that failure to do so would result in legal action against those responsible for spreading the claims.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Dr. Duffour’s commitment to the unity and growth of the NDC, as well as the peace and development of Ghana.
