Prez Mahama Charges GARID, HYDRO, Local Gov’t Ministry, To Speed Up Drainage Projects

John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, has charged The Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project , Ghana Hydrological Authority (HYDRO), and the Ministry of Sanitation under the Local Government, to expedite the completion of major drainage systems .

This is meant to mitigate flooding, alleviate destruction of property and loss of life.

He made this call during a tour of flood-prone areas in Accra on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.

“We have to do everything to alleviate destruction of property and loss of life as much as possible. I have charged the ministry of Sanitation to pay attention to make sure that all the projects that have to make Accra resilient from flooding are speeded as quickly as possible to minimize flooding.

“These have to do with the major drains but there are also the minor drains that feed water into the main drains and with some of those minor drains, it is just people building walls across or building their properties in the waterways that is causing flooding to their neighbourhood and all that.” He emphasized.
