“If we need Andre Ayew, we will call him, At the moment, others ahead of him” – Otto Addo

The experienced player’s position within the team has changed, as Black Stars coach Otto Addo has stated that Andre Ayew is currently lower in the hierarchy for national team call-ups.

Despite being a mainstay for Ghana over the years, the 35-year-old attacker has not been invited to the national squad since March 2024.

Ayew is farther down the list for international selection despite his strong club achievements, including four goals in 11 starts for Le Havre of the French Ligue 1 this season.

“If we need Andre Ayew, we will call him. At the moment, I see others ahead of him,” Addo said.

As the Black Stars’ substantive captain in Ayew’s absence from the national squad, his brother Jordan Ayew has taken over.

Jordan led the team to significant wins in the 2026 World Cup qualifying tournament against Chad and Madagascar.

With four games left in the qualifying campaign, Ghana has risen to the top of Group I with 15 points thanks to their consecutive victories.
