A Member of the Communications Wing of the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Thomas Oheneba Boakye has appealed to the NPP Council and National Executive Committee to consider granting voting rights to all persons elected as Chapter Executives in the diasporan branches.
This, the UK-NPP member believes would help those persons to become part of all decisions making processes of the party they love.
He noted that currently, only the elected executives of the diasporan branches vote in the party’s national and flag-bearer elections while chapter executives are overlooked.
“I am appealing to the National Council and NEC to push for reforms that would enable elected executives of the chapters to vote in all internal elections of the NPP since they are like the constituency executives in the party”, Mr Boakye pleaded.
Justification:
The NPP UK-NPP member said the diasporan branches have over the years sacrificed to keep the NPP party afloat.
He mentioned that each year, the chapters of the overseas branches mobilise large amounts of resources to help with party work.
Based upon these mobilisations, Mr Boakye said it is expedient that voting rights are given to members of the diasporan chapters to vote.
“The NPP overseas or diasporan chapter executives are just like the constituency officers of our party and therefore just as 17 persons are allowed to vote at national and flag-bearer elections same should be accorded to us”, the UK-NPP member stressed.
Additional Support:
Mentioning other support services, Mr Boakye said the overseas or diasporan chapters at election years provide assistance to constituencies of the party.
He stated that the diasporan chapters and branches by design adopt some of these constituencies and make them their project for the elections.
This, he noted includes supporting campaign activities as well as mobilising funds for same at the selected constituencies.
“We’ve played crucial roles for the party since the diasporan branches and chapters were established and I believe when we are accorded with the needed recognition it will encourage the chapters to even play better roles going forward”, the NPP-UK Communications Team Member stressed.
