Government Recalls Diplomatic and Service Passports Issued Under Previous Administration

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a directive for the recall of diplomatic and service passports issued during the previous administration. This move aims to ensure the proper use and administration of official travel documents in accordance with the Passports and Travel Certificates Act, 1967 NLCD 155.

A total of 404 diplomatic passports and 387 service passports remain outstanding, and individuals who fall within the affected categories are required to surrender their passports by March 17, 2025. The categories include:

Former Government Officials: Former ministers, members of parliament, regional ministers, and government functionaries
Judiciary: Former/retired justices of the superior and lower courts
Council of State: Former members of the Council of State and their spouses
National Cathedral Project Officials: Officials involved in the National Cathedral Project
Businessmen and Entrepreneurs: Individuals who hold official passports but are not currently serving in any official capacity

Failure to surrender these passports by the deadline will result in cancellation and seizure at any of Ghana’s entry and exit points.

The Ministry has designated the Legal and Treaties Bureau as the collection point for the surrendered passports.
