Ghana Health Service Commemorates International Women’s Day with a Call to Action Against Malaria

As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, Professor Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Acting Director General of the Ghana Health Service, has reiterated the organization’s commitment to empowering women and eliminating malaria.

Malaria remains a significant public health challenge in Ghana, disproportionately affecting pregnant women and children under five. Professor Akoriyea emphasized the importance of women taking an active role in protecting themselves and their communities against malaria.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I urge all women to seek timely treatment and improve community efforts to eliminate malaria,” Professor Akoriyea said. “Together, we can create a future without malaria.”

The Ghana Health Service has launched a campaign, “Zero Malaria Starts with Me and You,” to mobilize communities and individuals to take action against malaria. Professor Akoriyea encouraged everyone to join the fight against malaria, emphasizing that collective action is necessary to achieve a malaria-free future.

On this International Women’s Day, the Ghana Health Service recognizes the enormous contributions women make to health and well-being in Ghana. Professor Akoriyea congratulated his mother and all women for their tireless efforts, saying, “We celebrate you and your selfless dedication to creating a healthier and more equitable nation.”

As Ghana strives to eliminate malaria, the Ghana Health Service remains committed to working with communities, women’s groups, and other stakeholders to achieve this goal. Together, we can create a brighter, healthier future for all Ghanaians.
