Sports Minister Kofi Adams reiterates government is going to take school sports very serious

Ghana’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has made a firm commitment to prioritizing school sports in the country, stating that the government is determined to take the development of sports at the school level more seriously. During a recent address, the minister emphasized the significance of sports in the overall growth of the nation, describing it as “big” and underscoring the role it plays in shaping young talents and fostering national pride.
Speaking passionately about the future of Ghanaian sports, Kofi Adams highlighted the need for a structured approach to school sports, acknowledging that it serves as the foundation for the country’s sporting achievements. “Sports is big, and it is a key area that deserves our focus. If we want to build a future of talented athletes and elevate our national sporting prowess, we must start by nurturing and supporting school sports,” Adams said.
He pointed out that schools are the breeding grounds for young athletes who, with the right guidance, resources, and facilities, could go on to represent the nation on the international stage. The minister called for enhanced collaboration between educational institutions, the government, and private sector stakeholders to create an enabling environment for school sports to thrive.
Adams also stressed the importance of improving sports infrastructure in schools, as well as providing adequate training programs for coaches and physical education teachers. He expressed the government’s intent to allocate more resources to schools, ensuring that sports development is not sidelined but integrated into the education system.
