Birth and Death Registry Brouhaha: CLOGSAG should rather take court action than go on strike – Kessben FM’s Journalist, Wofa Kofi Appiah tells Union

Wofa Kofi Appiah, a well-respected journalist at Kessben FM, has recently weighed in on the ongoing dispute between the Civil Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) and the government. CLOGSAG, a union representing public sector workers, has raised concerns about the conduct of Samuel Adom Botchway, the head of the Birth and Death Registry, and has called for his removal from office. In response, Wofa Kofi Appiah has urged CLOGSAG to pursue legal avenues instead of resorting to a strike.

Wofa Kofi Appiah speaking with KOD on Kessben’s Morning show in Kumasi emphasized that while CLOGSAG’s frustrations and grievances are valid, resorting to strike action could disrupt public services and negatively affect ordinary Ghanaians. Instead, he advised the association to explore legal means to address their concerns and push for the necessary changes, including the removal of Samuel Adom Botchway from his position.

“Strikes should not be the first option for resolving issues,” Wofa Kofi Appiah said during his broadcast. “CLOGSAG has every right to express its displeasure, but they must understand that going on strike could create further inconvenience for the public. There are legal and institutional channels that can be used to challenge this issue effectively.” He stated.”

CLOGSAG’s call for the removal of Samuel Adom Botchway has sparked significant debate, with some public sector workers supporting the union’s position, while others have raised concerns about the broader implications of such a move.

The Birth and Death Registry is a critical institution in Ghana, responsible for managing vital records, and any dysfunction in this area could affect citizens’ access to essential services like birth certificates, and death certificates.
