Clubs have contracts with the players and the contracts can’t be paused. People have invested and it is not easy while there is no football – Accra Hearts of Oak’s Alhaji Akambi calls for football to resume

Alhaji Akambe, a management member of Hearts of Oak, has voiced strong support for the resumption of football in Ghana following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan, Pooley, who was stabbed to death at Nsoatre when Nsoatreman FC hosted Kotoko.
Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, Akambe expressed his concern over the prolonged hiatus in football and the challenges it is causing for both clubs and their players. He emphasized that the disruption is not only affecting the sport but also the financial investments tied to it.
“Football needs to resume,” Akambe stated emphatically during the interview. “The clubs have contracts with their players, and those contracts can’t be paused indefinitely. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.”.
For the clubs, particularly the more financially dependent ones, the ongoing absence of football matches has halted the stream of revenue they rely on. With no football taking place, these revenue streams are cut off, putting immense pressure on the financial stability of the clubs.
The suspension of football due to Pooley’s tragic death has affected many aspects of the sport, including the business side. Sponsors, who have committed funds to various clubs, are now left uncertain about the return on their investments.
While the death of Pooley has cast a shadow over the football community, Akambe also acknowledged the importance of honoring the late Kotoko fan.
Akambe commended the security apparatus, the GFA, and all the stakeholders who have since dedicated time and resources to ensuring the perpetrators of Pooley’s killers will be brought to book.
