The OSP is a very intelligent guy but how he’s going about Ken Ofori Atta’s case is clouding his sense of intelligence – Henry Nana Boakye

Nana Boakye, the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has publicly criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over its handling of the case involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. Boakye speaking on Kessben TV’s Maakye with Kwame Appiah Kubi expressed concerns that the way the OSP has handled the situation is raising questions about its approach and potentially clouding its intelligence.

In a series of statements, Nana Boakye questioned why Ken Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister during the previous administration, was declared a wanted person by the OSP. According to Boakye, such actions are not only unnecessary but also seem to be an overreaction, which could negatively impact the credibility of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.

Ken Ofori-Atta, a key figure in Ghana’s financial and political landscape, has been at the center of various allegations related to corruption and financial mismanagement during his tenure as the Finance Minister. His name has surfaced in connection with several controversial deals and policies, raising suspicions among political opponents and the public regarding his role in some financial decisions that might not have been in the best interest of the country.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor, under the leadership of its current head, has been tasked with investigating cases of corruption involving high-ranking public officials. As part of these investigations, Ofori-Atta has been summoned by the OSP for questioning in connection with his involvement in alleged financial misconduct. However, in a shocking move, the OSP declared Ofori-Atta a “wanted” individual, further intensifying the political debate.

This declaration came despite Ofori-Atta’s public statements denying any wrongdoing, and his readiness to cooperate with investigations. The decision to brand the former minister as a fugitive has sparked widespread criticism from his supporters and political allies, including Nana Boakye.

Nana Boakye did not mince words in his criticism of the OSP, suggesting that the Office was clouding its judgment and intelligence by handling the case in such a manner. According to Boakye, the public declaration of Ofori-Atta as a wanted person was unwarranted and could damage the integrity of the investigations.

In his remarks, Boakye questioned the motivations behind such a drastic move, pointing out that Ofori-Atta had not been proven guilty of any crime at that point, and declaring him a fugitive could be seen as a politically motivated maneuver. “Why should the OSP declare Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted person without clear evidence of his involvement in any criminal activity?” he asked. Boakye expressed concern that the OSP’s actions could be perceived as part of a broader political agenda, particularly given Ofori-Atta’s high-profile role in the previous government and his close association with the current ruling party.

Boakye further added that the handling of the case had the potential to undermine public trust in the institution. He argued that the OSP should be guided by objectivity and fairness, without letting political considerations cloud its judgment. According to the NPP National Organizer, the Special Prosecutor’s Office needs to focus on thorough investigations and due process rather than resorting to sensational tactics that could harm the reputation of innocent individuals.
