PUSAG Commends IGP for Immediate Security Deployment to Private Universities

The Private Universities Students’ Association of Ghana (PUSAG) has expressed its deep appreciation to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for his swift response to security concerns raised by private university students.

At a high-level engagement held at the police headquarters in Accra , a delegation led by PUSAG President, H.E. Ibrahim Issah, together with senior management officials from private universities and SRC presidents, met with the Police High Command to discuss the increasing security challenges on private university campuses across Ghana.

Following extensive deliberations, the IGP immediately ordered the deployment of police personnel to patrol private universities, ensuring enhanced security for students and staff.

Key Security Measures Agreed Upon
1. Immediate Deployment of Police Patrol Teams: The IGP has directed the urgent dispatch of officers to private university campuses to provide regular patrols and a visible security presence.
2. Dedicated Liaison Officers for Private Universities: Each institution will have a designated police liaison officer to strengthen communication, rapid response, and crime prevention efforts.
3. Collaboration on Campus Security Training: The Ghana Police Service will partner with private universities to train campus security personnel on modern security techniques, emergency response, and crime detection.
4. Emergency Hotline for Private Universities: A dedicated emergency contact will be set up for private university students and staff to report security incidents for swift intervention.
5. Personal Safety Awareness Summit: PUSAG, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, will organize safety awareness summits on private university campuses to educate students on personal security, crime prevention strategies, and emergency response protocols.

PUSAG President Commends IGP’s Leadership

Speaking to the media after the engagement, PUSAG President H.E. Ibrahim Issah commended the IGP and the Ghana Police Service for their immediate action and commitment to securing private university campuses.

“The safety of our students is paramount, and today’s meeting has reassured us that private universities are a priority for national security. We commend the IGP for his swift response and look forward to continued collaboration to ensure a safer learning environment for all students,” President Issah stated.

Strengthening Student-Police Collaboration

PUSAG also pledged to work closely with the Police Service to ensure that security concerns of students are addressed effectively. The association will continue engaging the police hierarchy, university management, and SRC executives to ensure that these measures are fully implemented.

The meeting marks a significant step in strengthening security on private university campuses, demonstrating the commitment of PUSAG and the Ghana Police Service to safeguarding students and their academic environment.
