The now Kotoko and Hearts are not the Kotoko and Hearts we used to Know, their heydays are over and should wake up from their slumber – Aduana Stars General Manager, Takyi Arhin

Takyi Arhin, the General Manager of Aduana Stars, has made headlines with his critique of Ghana’s two most iconic football clubs, Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak. In an exclusive interview on Kessben TV, Arhin, a seasoned figure in Ghanaian football, asserted that the current versions of Kotoko and Hearts are far from the dominant forces they once were. According to Arhin, both clubs have lost their former glory and need to “wake up from their slumber” if they are to regain their competitive edge and status in Ghanaian football.

Following the tragic incident at Nsoatren leading to the demise of Asante Kotoko fan, Nana Pooley, Kotoko, and Hearts have submitted a joint statement to GFA asking for their demands to be met before the suspended premier league is resumed.

One of the things both clubs are asking for it to have an automatic spot on the GFA executive council.

Takyi Arhin speaking on Kessben TV stressed that that is too much to ask by the two clubs and  won’t be possible.

Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak have long been considered the pillars of Ghanaian football, with a rich history of domestic and continental success. For decades, the two clubs have been the main contenders in the Ghana Premier League, with passionate fan bases and numerous titles between them. However, over recent years, both clubs have struggled to maintain their dominance, leading to frustrations among their supporters.

, Arhin emphasized that Kotoko and Hearts of Oak need to acknowledge the reality that their dominance is no longer what it used to be. “The Kotoko and Hearts we used to know, the ones that dominated football in Ghana, are no longer there,” Arhin said. “Their heydays are over, and it’s time for them to wake up from their slumber.”

Despite his strong criticism, Arhin’s message carries a tone of challenge and encouragement. He is not merely attacking Kotoko and Hearts but urging them to take a hard look at their current state and embark on a path of renewal. According to Arhin, the clubs need to recognize that success cannot be achieved solely on the back of past achievements. He believes that the footballing giants need to modernize their operations, improve their management, and invest in the development of players if they wish to restore their former glory.
