As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) continues to grapple with its defeat in the 2024 election, Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, a leading member of the party, has emphasized the need for introspection and honest self-reflection. In a recent conversation, Poku stressed that the party must look inward to understand why Ghanaians rejected them at the polls.
“The blame should be laid on the doorstep of governance,” Poku stated, citing the party’s failure to address pressing issues at the grassroots level. He also highlighted the need for the party to engage with ordinary Ghanaians and understand their concerns.
Poku’s comments come as the Mike Ocquaye committee, established to probe the NPP’s election defeat, begins its work. The committee’s findings are expected to shed light on the party’s shortcomings and provide recommendations for future improvement.
In his conversation, Poku also addressed the controversy surrounding Dr. Bawumia’s Muslim faith and its perceived impact on the election outcome. He dismissed claims that Christians voted against Dr. Bawumia due to his faith, pointing out that data from various constituencies contradicts this narrative.
“We should stop that propaganda,” Poku urged. “It’s not going to help us. We need to focus on the real issues that led to our defeat.”
Poku’s call for introspection and self-reflection echoes the sentiments of many NPP supporters, who are eager to see the party learn from its mistakes and regroup for future challenges.
As the NPP embarks on this journey of self-discovery, Poku’s words serve as a reminder that honest reflection and a willingness to learn from mistakes are essential for growth and success.
