Labour Minister Outlines Vision for Ghana’s Workforce

Hon. Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo (MP), the newly appointed Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, has officially assumed office, outlining his priorities for transforming Ghana’s labour sector.
In his first meeting with staff of the ministry and sector stakeholders on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Hon. Pelpuo expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve the people of Ghana. He acknowledged the immense responsibility of leading the labour sector, which plays a critical role in shaping the nation’s workforce and fostering economic growth.
Hon. Pelpuo emphasized the government’s commitment to creating decent jobs, protecting workers’ rights, and promoting sustainable businesses. His key priorities include:
– Promoting Job Creation and Employment Opportunities*: Collaborating with the private sector, educational institutions, and development partners to enhance skills training, entrepreneurship, and labour market access.
– Workers’ Rights and Social Protection*: Ensuring dignity, fair treatment, and protection for all workers through the Labour Bill and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Bill.
– Industrial Relations and Workplace Standards*: Reinforcing systems for dispute resolution, collective bargaining, and social dialogue to maintain industrial peace and productivity.
– Building Capacities and Strengthening Institutions*: Improving service delivery through staff development and institutional strengthening.
Hon. Pelpuo appealed to staff to bring their expertise and knowledge to deliver on the government’s mandate, emphasizing the importance of neutrality, non-partisanship, and teamwork.
