It’s just mere cosmetic, the Council of State ‘advisory board’ should be dissolved and abolished – Akua Piesie Asare Bediako
Kessben FM’s journalist, Akua Piesie Asare Bediako, has strongly advocated for the dissolution and abolition of the Council of State board, arguing that it serves as nothing more than a “mere cosmetic” body without a substantial impact on the governance of the country.
Speaking on Kessben Maakye with KOD, Piesie expressed his concerns about the effectiveness and relevance of the Council of State, calling for a reevaluation of its role in the current political landscape.”
The Council of State, established by the Constitution of Ghana, is mandated to advise the President on a variety of national issues. However, in recent years, its effectiveness has been questioned, with critics arguing that the body often lacks the power to meaningfully impact policy decisions or hold the government accountable.
Piesie’s call for the dissolution of the Council of State Committee is rooted in his belief that the current structure of the body no longer serves the needs of the Ghanaian people. He argues that the committee, instead of fulfilling its intended purpose, has become a redundant institution that consumes state resources without yielding tangible results.
While Piesie advocates for the abolition of the Council of State Committee in its current form, she also acknowledges the importance of having advisory bodies in governance. He suggested that if the Council of State is to be retained, it should undergo a complete overhaul to make it more functional and accountable.
