Jerry Ahmed Shaib’s Actions Spark Concern Among Constituents
The actions of Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe, have sparked widespread concern and disappointment among his constituents. Shaib, who also holds the position of Minority Second Chief Whip, was recently handed a two-week suspension following his controversial conduct in Parliament.
Alhaji Faisal Seidu, a former aspiring parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Weija Gbawe, expressed his dissatisfaction with Shaib’s behavior, stating that residents of the constituency were deeply disappointed by his actions. Seidu argued that the suspension could have been an opportunity for Shaib to reflect on his behavior and make amends, but instead, it has been overshadowed by negative headlines.
Seidu emphasized that Shaib’s behavior has caused significant controversy within the constituency, particularly given his leadership role within the Minority. “The people of Weija Gbawe did not expect such conduct from a first-time MP, especially one in a leadership role,” Seidu remarked.
The controversy surrounding Shaib’s conduct has raised questions about his suitability to represent the constituency in Parliament. Seidu urged Shaib to reflect on his actions, warning that if re-elected, he might engage in even more controversial behavior.
It’s worth noting that Shaib had previously urged Ghanaians to vote based on competence rather than tribe during the 2024 elections ¹. However, his recent conduct has led many to question whether he is living up to his own principles.
As the controversy surrounding Shaib’s conduct continues to unfold, one thing is clear: the people of Weija Gbawe deserve better representation in Parliament.
