CHOPSS Congratulates Hon. Haruna Iddrisu on Minister of Education Appointment
The Conference of Heads of Private Second-Cycle Schools (CHOPSS) has congratulated Hon. Haruna Iddrisu on his appointment as Minister of Education, describing it as well-deserved. The group praised Hon. Iddrisu’s extensive expertise and accomplishments in public service, which have earned him overwhelming approval from both the Majority and Minority.
CHOPSS expressed confidence that Hon. Iddrisu’s wealth of experience, particularly his stellar performances as Minister of Communications and Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, will translate into transformative leadership at the Ministry of Education. They noted that his tenure offers a unique opportunity to address critical challenges and revitalize Ghana’s educational system.
However, CHOPSS also drew attention to the urgent need to address the challenges faced by private senior high schools under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy. The group noted that the policy’s poor implementation has led to the collapse of many private senior high schools, leaving others on the brink of closure.
CHOPSS welcomed President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to include private senior high schools in the Free SHS policy, as outlined in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Manifesto. They expressed optimism that Hon. Iddrisu will rejuvenate the partnership between the government and private senior high schools, complementing the government’s efforts to provide free, quality, and accessible education to all Ghanaians.
The group looks forward to engaging with Hon. Iddrisu to discuss strategies for integrating private senior high schools into the Free SHS policy and strengthening the public-private partnership in education. As stated by IK Mensah, National President of CHOPSS, “Together, we can ensure that Ghana’s educational system reaches new heights of excellence and inclusivity”.
