“Eugene Antwi is part of those who contributed mainly to NPP’s loss of the 2024 elections, He should not dare come close to the party’s General Secretary race” – Journalist, Akua Piesie fires

Journalist Akua Piesie has accused former Subin MP, Eugene Antwi as being one of the key figures responsible for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 general elections. According to Piesie, Antwi’s actions during the campaign were pivotal in the party’s downfall, and she has warned that he should not even think about running for the party’s General Secretary position in the wake of the defeat.

The NPP, which has held power in Ghana for the past two terms, suffered a significant blow in the 2024 elections. Despite efforts to retain leadership, the party lost the presidential race and saw its parliamentary representation severely weakened. For many within the NPP, the results were not entirely surprising. A combination of internal divisions, leadership missteps, and disconnection from the electorate contributed to the party’s failure.

Among those under fire for their role in the party’s loss is Eugene Antwi, a former Subin MP who was a key figure in the NPP’s campaign efforts. While Antwi has been an influential member of the NPP over the years, his handling of the party’s strategies and operations during the campaign has been widely criticized. For Akua Piesie, Antwi’s actions were not just an oversight—they were central to the party’s disappointing election performance.

Akua Piesie, the Producer of Kessben FM’s Political morning show and vocal journalist with a deep understanding of Ghanaian politics, wasted no time in pointing the finger at Eugene Antwi.

Piesie’s criticism highlights a broader sentiment within the party, where many believe Antwi’s leadership style was ineffective in addressing the concerns of the electorate. His disconnect with the grassroots, failure to adapt to the changing political environment, and inability to craft a compelling narrative for the NPP were key factors that contributed to the party’s downfall. According to Piesie, these leadership failures are not minor issues—they were critical to the NPP’s electoral loss.

Piesie’s frustration with Antwi’s role in the 2024 loss does not end with just criticism. In an even bolder move, Piesie has warned Eugene Antwi that he should not “dare” to run for the General Secretary position in the NPP following the election defeat. Given Antwi’s significant role in the party’s failure, Piesie insists that his involvement in the party’s future leadership could only deepen its troubles.

The role of General Secretary is one of the most influential positions in the NPP, and for Piesie, it is crucial that the party selects a leader who can rebuild its credibility and unite its factions. Given Antwi’s alleged failure to inspire confidence or produce results during the campaign, Piesie believes he would be a poor choice to take on such a critical role.
