“NDC elected their flagbearer as back as May 2023 and we NPP elected our’s in November 2023, six months difference “I have targeted some NPP members to come and say I contributed to the NPP’s loss in the 2024 elections. They will hear things – NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Koduah, made a bold statement regarding the party’s loss at the 2024 elections.

The NDC, led by John Dramani Mahama, made a significant move by electing their flagbearer as early as May 2023, providing them with ample time to strategize and strengthen their position ahead of the 2024 elections. On the other hand, the NPP took a more cautious approach and did not elect their flagbearer until November 2023, a full six months after their main political rivals. This delay in selecting a candidate has led to concerns that the NPP might have lagged in terms of campaign preparation and establishing a clear direction for the elections.

In his interview with Kwabena Owusu Dankwah on Kessben FM, Koduah confidently responded to these concerns and dismissed any notion that his leadership would be blamed for the party’s potential failure at the polls. “I have targeted some NPP members to come and say I contributed to the NPP’s loss in the 2024 elections. They will hear things,” he declared. His remark sent a clear message to internal critics who might try to point fingers should the party fail to secure victory.

He appeared resolute, emphasizing that the party’s leadership and decision-making were in the right hands, and any attempt to shift blame would not go unchallenged. Koduah’s remarks are seen as a defense against potential political sabotage from within the ranks of the party, suggesting that he is well aware of the internal dynamics that influenced the outcome of the election.

Koduah’s statement highlights the increasing scrutiny faced by political parties as they prepare for high-stakes elections. In the case of the NPP, the six-month delay in selecting their flagbearer compared to the NDC is seen by some as a strategic disadvantage. While the NDC has had a head start in terms of campaign planning, the NPP’s internal politics and decision-making processes led to the NPP’s loss of the 2024 elections.
