Electoral Commission of Ghana Announces Council of State Elections

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced the upcoming elections to elect Regional Representatives to the Council of State, in accordance with Paragraph (C), Clause (2) of Article 89 of the 1992 Constitution. The elections are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in all Regional Capitals.

Aspiring candidates are required to submit their Nomination Forms, accompanied by two recent bust-sized photographs against a red background, to the Regional Director of their respective regions. The submission period is from Tuesday, January 28, to Friday, January 31, 2025, between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm each day.

To be eligible, nominations must be proposed and seconded by two registered voters in the region and supported by twenty registered voters from the same region. Candidates must also provide their consent to nomination for election as a Member of the Council of State.

The Electoral Commission has made the Nomination Forms available for download on their website ((link unavailable)), and candidates are required to complete the forms in triplicate.

The Council of State is a body established by the 1992 Constitution, comprising representatives elected from each region, as well as other members appointed by the President. The Council plays a crucial advisory role to the President on matters of national importance.

The Electoral Commission, chaired by Mrs. Jean Mensa, has assured the public of a transparent and fair electoral process. With the elections just around the corner, aspiring candidates are encouraged to participate and contribute to the democratic process.
