AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Partners Hon Taylor to Build $2.5m Ultra-Modern Community Centre in Tarkwa
AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, in partnership with the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Hon. Issah Salifu Taylor, has launched an ambitious $2.5 million project to construct an ultra-modern community centre in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.
The initiative, which underscores AngloGold Ashanti’s commitment to fostering sustainable development in its host communities, aims to provide a central hub for education, innovation, and talent development. The facility, designed to accommodate up to 2,000 people, is expected to be completed within 18 months, with Bensat Company Limited serving as the project contractor.
Strategic Collaboration
In preparation for the project, Hon. Taylor met with AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem’s management team, led by the Sustainability Manager, Mr. Stephen Adjei. Accompanying the MP were his Special Aide and the Deputy Constituency Secretary, while the Municipal Coordinating Director and other municipal officials, including the Urban Roads Engineer, were also in attendance.
Discussions at the meeting centered on the timelines and execution of the project, culminating in an agreement to hold the sod-cutting ceremony on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the project site.
Hon. Taylor, who pledged to construct a state-of-the-art community centre during his election campaign, expressed appreciation to AngloGold Ashanti for taking on the full cost of the project. He emphasized that the facility will serve as a vital space for residents to engage in educational and social activities.
History of Community Impact
This project is the latest in a series of community-focused investments by AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem. In 2017, the company constructed a state-of-the-art social centre for the Bankyim community at a cost of GH¢432,190. The facility featured a 500-seater hall, offices, changing rooms, and washrooms.
Four years later, in 2021, the company funded the construction of a teacher’s quarters for Abompuniso Basic School and an ultra-modern 300-capacity social centre for Timber Road residents. These projects, valued at over GH¢1.1 million, have significantly improved infrastructure and social amenities in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality.
A New Era for Tarkwa-Nsuaem
The upcoming community centre is expected to have far-reaching benefits for the municipality, providing opportunities for learning, empowerment, and innovation. Its construction marks another milestone in the collaboration between AngloGold Ashanti and local stakeholders to advance the welfare of the community.
AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem’s continuous investment in social infrastructure underscores its dedication to creating a lasting impact in the lives of its host communities. Residents of Tarkwa-Nsuaem eagerly await the completion of this landmark project, which promises to be a beacon of hope and progress for the municipality.
