Richard Ahiagbah: ORAL is Unnecessary and Unconstitutional
Richard Ahiagbah, Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claims that the government’s Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) is not legal.
He also questioned the rationale behind the formation of the five-member committee chaired by North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
Speaking about the establishment of the anti-corruption committee, Richard Ahiagbah stated that the ORAL would not ensure the nation’s strength in dealing with corruption-related activities.
“The NDC can come through Parliament if it wishes to give the ORAL Committee the powers to help it fulfill its campaign promise. Let the NDC do the right and lawful thing,”Richard Ahiagbah disclosed this on X.
“The NDC must be reminded that they didn’t come to power orp government through the barrel of a gun; they were elected and sworn in according to the law, the 1992 Constitution. So, they must operate with the law rather than become lawless,”he added.
Richard Ahiagbah claimed that the committee is superfluous because numerous state entities are already tasked to supervise corruption-related issues.
Legal experts, particularly those from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), have expressed concerns about the constitutionality of the ORAL initiative, claiming that the committee lacks legal basis and that its operations are unlawful.
While the legitimacy of ORAL continues to be debated across the country, the team, led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has already started operations.
Richard Ahiagbah argued that it was critical that the nation’s laws be permitted to function.
