Sammi Awuku resigns as Director General of National Lottery Authority

The Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Mr Samuel Awuku (Sammi Awuku), has formally submitted his resignation to President John Dramani Mahama.

In his letter, he cited his election as a Member of Parliament and his desire to focus on serving his constituents as the reason for his resignation.

Mr Awuku, who previously served as the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and is currently the Member of Parliament for Akwapim North, was appointed to the NLA position by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in August 2021.

In his resignation letter, Mr Awuku has also copied key officials, including Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, and the Executive Secretary to the President.

Other recipients of the letter include the Chairperson of the Public Services Commission in Accra, the Minister of Finance designate, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance, the Acting Director of Human Resources at NLA, and the Director of Finance at NLA.

“I write to formally inform you of my resignation as Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) effective January 13, 2025,” the letter read.

It continued: “I have been elected as a Member of Parliament for the Akwapim North Constituency and have been duly sworn in to represent my constituents. In the light of this new responsibility, I wish to focus my efforts on serving as a Member of Parliament.”
