George Afriyie commends GFA for appointing Frimpong Manso as Head Coach of Black Starlets (U-17)

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice president, George Afriyie, speaking on Kessben FM expressed his full support and commendation for the GFA’s decision to appoint Frimpong Manso as the new head coach of the Black Starlets, Ghana’s national U-17 football team. The appointment, which was made official in January 2025, has been hailed as a positive step in the development of youth football in the country.

George Afriyie, who has long been involved in the development of football at various levels in Ghana, lauded the GFA for choosing Manso, a former player and experienced coach, to lead the Black Starlets. Manso, who has had stints as both a player and a coach, has proven his mettle in youth football, having previously managed several youth teams with great success. His vast experience both on and off the field makes him a fitting candidate for the role of head coach of the U-17 side.

Manso’s tenure as coach of the Black Starlets will be vital, as he is tasked with preparing the team for future competitions, including the prestigious CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA U-17 World Cup. His focus will likely be on developing not just technical skills, but also instilling a strong sense of discipline and professionalism in the young players.

Afriyie, a long-time advocate for youth development in Ghanaian football, emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent. He believes that investing in youth football is critical for the sustained success of the national team, particularly as the Black Stars strive to reclaim their place as one of Africa’s footballing powerhouses.

As the new head coach of the Black Starlets, Manso faces the exciting challenge of leading one of the most talented youth teams in Africa. With the backing of the GFA and the support of football stakeholders like George Afriyie, Manso will be looking to build a team capable of competing for titles on the continental and global stage.

The appointment of Frimpong Manso also signals a commitment to continuity and excellence within Ghana’s youth football structures. The GFA is determined to continue its investment in the development of young talent and to ensure that the Black Starlets remain a force to be reckoned with in international competitions.
