Ablekuma North Election Saga: NDC accuses EC of manipulating election results, demands transparency and fairness
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns about the handling of the recent elections in Ablekuma North, accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of manipulating the process.
According to a statement read by Daniel Tornyigah, NDC Director of Elections for Ablekuma North, the NPP candidate initially claimed to have no pink sheets, instead presenting images and figures on her mobile phone. However, the NPP later produced a misterious pink sheet with a total votes of 490, which the NDC alleges were “sneaked in” with the assistance of the district EC head and the Municipal Chief Executive.
The NDC is questioning the legitimacy of these pink sheets and demanding to know why the EC and the police personnel deployed to the district collation center aided in their introduction. They also want to know if these pink sheets are part of the digitally collated data being used for the recollation exercise.
Furthermore, the NDC is accusing the EC of attempting to manipulate the election results, citing instances where EC staff have been contacting presiding officers to request figures for their respective polling stations. In some cases, the EC staff have even provided figures for the presiding officers to record.
The NDC has declared its candidate, Hon. Ewurabena Aubynn, as the winner of the election and is calling on the EC to respect the will of the people. They have also warned that they will resist any attempt to overturn the election results.
This development highlights the need for transparency and accountability in Ghana’s electoral process. As the country continues to navigate the challenges of democratic governance, it is essential that all stakeholders work together to ensure the integrity of the electoral system.
