Power Is Not a License to Loot – Ablakwa Reacts to NPP’s Electoral Loss
The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has described the outcome of the recent elections as a “remarkable” political comeback.
In an interview with TV3’s Alfred Ocansey regarding the just-concluded elections, Mr. Ablakwa criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, describing its administration as “reckless.”
Explaining his perspective on the NPP’s defeat, Mr. Ablakwa cited the controversial “National Cathedral” project, which he labeled as unnecessary.
According to him, the funds allocated to the project could have been used to pay government workers who went on strike over unpaid salaries, as well as NABCO workers who never received their payments.
“The government claimed they had no money to pay workers, yet they spent $58 million to dig a hole. This has been the most reckless government the world has ever known.
Every category of government workers, from mortuary attendants to healthcare practitioners, went on strike,” he stated.
Reflecting further on the election results, Mr. Ablakwa emphasized that when citizens entrust a political party with power, it is not a license for corruption and exploitation.
“These results show that when the people give you power, it does not grant you the opportunity to loot, impoverish the citizens, or ruin the economy,” he concluded.
