The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged the public and political players to have patience, emphasizing that the polls were only closed twenty-three hours ago.
The official results of the presidential and parliamentary elections will be made public after they have been carefully examined, Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission, informed Ghanaians during a press conference on Sunday, December 8.
Jean Mensa clarified that the commission is striving to finish the required verification process in a span of 72 hours.
Following the concession of defeat by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), called on the EC to announce the results as soon as possible.
“We would like to ask that citizens exercise patience it’s just been 23 hours since the close of polls. The process is elaborate and it involves the political parties’ agents and observers at every step of the way. We will announce the results if they are ready before 72 hours.” The EC Chairperson said.
