Gomoa Otapirow Residents Threaten to Boycott December 7 Elections
Residents of Gomoa Otapirow, near Agona Swedru in the Central Region, have threatened to boycott the upcoming December 7 elections due to the community’s exclusion from developmental projects.
The community’s chiefs expressed frustration over the area’s lack of administrative recognition, which they believe has resulted in government neglect. They highlighted critical issues, including the lack of access to potable drinking water, poor road networks connecting the area to neighboring communities, and the absence of a school.
According to Mireku Nyampong, a reporter for Kessben Media, the community leaders had previously mobilized residents to boycott assembly member elections, signaling their resolve to abstain from all other elections until their concerns are addressed.
The chief of Gomoa Otaprow has reportedly warned of repercussions for any resident who participates in the general elections on December 7, reinforcing the community’s stance.
However, the District Chief Executive (DCE) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Agona West Constituency denied the allegations. The DCE cited four ongoing projects in the area, claiming the government has already initiated road construction and built a school within the area.
He further suggested that the community’s threat to boycott the elections might stem from other motives beyond the stated grievances.
