30 KASS students get laptops at 2024 Chito Excellence Award

  1. An old student of Kumasi Anglican Senior High School (KASS), Kwame Opoku Sarkodie, commonly known as Chito has gifted 30 brand new laptops to 30 brilliant students of the school.

The donation was carried under the ‘Chito Excellence Award Scheme’, which has been running for some years to serve as motivation to the young students.

The scheme, named after the founder – Kwame Opoku Sarkodie also known as ‘Chito’, started with presenting one laptop to the best student of that particular year, two laptops the next year, thirty laptops in 2022, and doubled it to 60 laptops 2023 as part of his birthday and 30 laptops this year.

Speaking to Kessben news after a ceremony to celebrate and honour the 30 pupils, Mr. Opoku Sarkodie, who is part of the 1983 alumni, said this gesture is to serve as motivation to the students and also to imbibe the habit of research among the students.

He further added that his stay in the US has taught him the essence of education and technology, hence, his decision to always assist his alma mater with technological support among others.

“After form five, I didn’t continue with my education but when I went to America, I realised that education is very important therefore; everyone should have it. So, I came up with the idea that I am going to make sure my children have an education. I further decided to come back to my alma mater to give back as a form of motivation to the students to surge on the academic ladder.

“I believe every student deserves a laptop or an iPad for some kind of research as technology has become the order of the day,” Mr. Opoku Sarkodie said.

Lawyer Stephen Boateng, old student and close friend to Mr Opoku Sarkodie also speaking to Kessben news reiterated that the purpose is to celebrate academic excellence and also to rouse the students to yearn for excellence and by so doing, give the school the needed results.

He advised the students to use the laptops for purpose of giving to lift the image of the school.

Headmistress of KASS, Madam Dorcas Tettey,, for her part, expressed appreciation to Mr. Opoku Sarkodie for this initiative as it has encouraged most of the students to do well in their studies since the the inception of the award scheme.

In related development as part of his generosity to support University – ready students to promote academic excellence, Mr Opoku Kwame Sarkodie further provided 33 laptops to winners of the just ended 2024 Ghana National Science and Maths Quiz.

The beneficiaries were, Grand prize winner. First Runner – up, Second Runner – up, Six Semi Finalists.

The rest were winner of the most impressive Run Award and Winner of the Newmont Golden Journey Award.
