Nyaaba-Aweeba Azongo Proposes a 4-Day Work Week if Elected as Ghana President
In an engaging conversation on Maakye TV, Nyaaba-Aweeba Azongo, the vice-presidential candidate supporting independent presidential hopeful George Twum-Barima-Adu for the 2024 elections, introduced an exciting new idea.
Azongo promised that if they come into power, all public sector workers would enjoy a four-day work week, with Fridays designated as a day off to relax.
During the show hosted by Nana Kofi Frimpong, Azongo outlined this plan and explained that it would kick in right after they are elected. The new work schedule would run from Monday to Thursday, giving everyone a long weekend starting Friday.
He emphasized that their focus is on what he calls “egocentric development,” which ties into the ideas laid out in Ghana’s Constitution. This development plan is aimed at improving the lives of individuals by addressing the challenges of work-life balance, which can negatively affect health and well-being. Azongo pointed out that the Constitution even encourages the government to make sure workers have enough free time to recharge.
To back up his proposal, Azongo shared examples from around the world where similar ideas have worked well. For instance, he mentioned that when Microsoft Japan tested a four-day work week, productivity jumped by 40%, and workers reported feeling healthier and happier.
Azongo also noted that this change would help ease the stress of commuting, as workers wouldn’t have to travel to the office every day.
He is confident that introducing a four-day work week will transform the work environment in Ghana, leading to a better quality of life for public employees.
In summary, Azongo envisions a four-day work schedule as a path to creating a healthier and more efficient workforce, ultimately benefiting all Ghanaians.
