NDC Allegedly Plotting Election Mayhem in Ashanti Region, NPP Claims
Raphael Sarfo Patrick, the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has made serious allegations against the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claiming the opposition party is planning to cause significant disruption during the upcoming December elections.
During an interview on the Maakye Show on Kessben TV on Thursday, 21st November 2024, hosted by Nana Ziega, Sarfo Patrick vehemently rejected recent claims by NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, that the NPP had contracted General Michael Opoku, the Chief Soldiers commander in the Ashanti Region, to interfere with ballot boxes.
Instead, he firmly asserted that it is the NDC who are orchestrating a sinister plot to create chaos in the Ashanti region.
According to Sarfo Patrick, intelligence reports suggest the NDC has devised a comprehensive strategy to instill fear and anxiety among the region’s residents, ultimately aiming to suppress voter turnout.
The NPP youth organiser elaborated on the alleged NDC tactics, including inciting violence, creating noise and panic, intimidating residents to stay indoors, and mobilizing recruited vigilante groups.
Furthermore, Sarfo Patrick claimed the plot was conceived during a conference meeting at a hotel in Obuasi, asserting they possess CCTV recordings and testimonies from meeting attendees as evidence.
He suggested that the NDC’s allegations against General Opoku are designed to spread misinformation and hatred, particularly in light of a recent press statement by military leadership warning against election violence.
In a surprising twist, he implicated Kofi Boakye, the former Police Commander in the Ashanti region, as a key figure behind the NDC’s alleged violent intentions.
However, Sarfo Patrick emphasized that the NPP remains undaunted, stating they will win the election through legitimate means and not through external assistance.
Concluding his statements, he issued a direct challenge to the NDC, asserting the NPP’s preparedness and resolve. “We are not afraid, we are not weak, and we are ready for whatever the NDC might be planning,” he declared, underscoring the party’s confidence and determination.
As the December elections approach, these allegations highlight the escalating political tensions in the Ashanti Region, with both parties trading accusations of potential electoral misconduct.
